Exelon (Rivastigmine) Exelon Information Exelon is a drug that is primarily used in treating Alzheimer’s disease, which is linked with low levels of acetylcholine in the brain. This drug is known to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain. Exelon Indications Exelon is primarily used in improving the thinking and memory of patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. This drug may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here. Exelon Warnings This drug may not be advisable if you any of the following conditions: * Significant nausea * Vomiting * lack of appetite * weight loss * difficulty in urinating * heart disease * history of stomach ulcers * history of seizures * history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease * in need of surgery You may not be able to take this drug, may need dosage adjustments, or may need special monitoring if you have any of the conditions listed above. This drug belongs to the FDA pregnancy category B, which means that it is not known to harm an unborn child. Still, do not take this drug without your doctor’s consent if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant during treatment. It is unknown whether this drug could potentially harm an infant. Do not take this drug without your doctor’s permission if you are nursing an infant. Exelon Intake Guidelines Exelon should be taken in exactly as instructed by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse, or a pharmacist and ask them to explain those matters to you. This drug should be taken in twice a day or as directed by your doctor. It should also be taken in with food and with a full glass of water. Do not take in more or less of this drug so as not to alter its effects. Store Exelon at room temperature and keep it away from moisture and heat. Exelon Dosage Dosage of Exelon should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors which include severity of the condition, age and others. Do not take in more of this drug so as to prevent unwanted side effects and to prevent overdose. Exelon Overdose Symptoms of overdose of this drug include the following: * severe nausea * vomiting * watering mouth * sweating * slow heartbeat * slow breathing * prolonged or severe dizziness * fainting * blurred vision * seizures * collapse If you experience any of these symptoms, you may be experiencing overdose. Seek immediate medical attention or call poison control. Inform your doctor afterwards. Exelon Missed Dose Doses of Exelon should not be missed. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Exelon Side Effects Exelon may have any of the following serious side effects and allergic reactions: * swelling of lips, face and tongue * hives * difficulty in breathing * closing of the throat If you experience any of these side effects, discontinue use and inform your doctor immediately. Exelon may also have less serious side effects that are more likely to occur. They include the following: * drowsiness or dizziness * nausea and vomiting * decreased appetite * diarrhea * weight loss * abdominal pain * headache * weakness or a feeling of general discomfort * tremor If you experience any of these side effects continue using the product but inform your doctor at the soonest possible time. Other side effects may also occur when you take Exelon. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking this drug. Exelon Drug Reactions Exelon may react with other drugs. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Exelon including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals and herbal products.
